AN ENORMOUS horse called Cracker - which hit the national headlines last week - was born near Chard.

Cracker, who stands at 6ft 6ins tall or in horse language 19-and-a-half hands, is believed to be the tallest horse in the world.

The 16-year-old shire gelding, which weighs a whopping 190 stones, was bought by owner Keith Sanders from a breeder in Cricket St Thomas for £2,000 in 1992.

Cracker is a show horse at the Northcote Heavy Horse Centre in Spilsby, Lincolnshire.
