TWO events for Devon's farmers not to miss are being staged at Haldon Racecourse on Tuesday February 8 and Highbullen Country Club, Chittlehamholt, on Thursday February 10. Top speakers, recognised as leaders in their field, will provide knowledge and stimulation and encourage questions and answers.

Charles Morgan of the Malvern-based car manufacturer will relate his experience of how the family retained control of their business and successfully developed a niche in the face of amalgamations, price pressures and competition of the global car industry.

Helen Browning, renowned organic farmer, MLC commissioner and a member of the Government Commission on the Future of Farming and Food, will set out her vision for a successful future.

Anthony Gibson, SW Regional NFU director, who takes on the establishment on a range of issues, will give his thoughts on ways in which farming can regain the initiative for life in the countryside.

The events will be "powered-up" with the latest in Information and Communication Technology and will focus on how this can aid better communication and decision-making in farming businesses.

The events are being organised by the Dynamite Partnership between Duchy and Bicton Colleges in conjunction with Defra, Dell Computers, the Environment Agency and the NFU. "The time is right for these events," said Tim Prior of Duchy College. "We are delighted with the industry support and response from leading input speakers. The two days will have a wealth of information and things to see and do from commercial exhibitors as well."
