A FOOTBALL coaching scheme for Cornish children has been named runner up in a national sports sponsorship scheme.
Sponsored by Carrs Audi of Truro, the Cornwall County Football Association coaching scheme for primary schools collected the runner up award in the youth sports category at the annual awards for grassroots sponsorship organised by Sportsmatch.
More than 1,500 children a year took part in holiday coaching schemes at 24 locations in Cornwall. As a direct result more than 20 new mini soccer teams have been formed an 100 girls have joined local football clubs.
The £3,000 sponsorship was matched by Sportsmatch - which is funded by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport through Sport England - and ran for one year.
