PORTHLEVEN 1 FALMOUTH TOWN 4
TOP versus bottom in the Jolly's Combination League brought the expected result, but it was not a performance that matched Falmouth Town's newly-attained status at the top of the Jolly's Combination League.
In fact, Town could have found themselves behind before they even got on the scoresheet with Daniel Stidwell being put clear by David Brand, but shooting at the goalkeeper.
Two minutes later the Fishermen had another good opportunity with Neil Bartlett forcing a good save by Ryan Brokenshire.
Shortly after Town took the lead in what were controversial circumstances. Gareth Harris was impeded by Simon Whear, but he got clear and ran on before thumping in a shot which produced a good save from new goalkeeper Ian Chatfield. However, the referee made a remarkable decision to go back to the free kick some time after the incident and Justin Miles wasn't going to waste his opportunity by smashing the ball into the net from the edge of the box.
Town added a second goal when Damien Stevens flicked on a goalkick for Matt Fox to lob the advancing goalkeeper.
Chris Earl headed in a far post corner from Andy Miles before Porthleven finally got on the scoresheet ten minutes from the break when Kyle Harvey and Daniel Stidwell set up Neil Bartlett to score.
