ARCHBISHOP Benson School's football team have won the prestigious English Schools FA County Championship held on Saturday. The playing conditions were awful, but the youngsters adapted well throughout.
Playing against nine other large schools from right across the Duchy, this was a first-ever victory for a Truro primary.
Defeating last year's winners Carbeile, Torpoint in their mini league, Archbishop Benson overcame Biscovey in the semi-finals before playing St Mary's RC, Penzance, in the final.
The Benson team now go forward to represent Cornwall in the South West regional finals, to be held in Gloucestershire in March 2005.
