THE chairman of Burnham's Royal British Legion has issued a warning to churches and charities to beware of a brazen conman he fears is targeting good causes in the area.
Malcolm Hill says the Legion has been approached by a man who spun a yarn about being wrongly turfed off a late night train in Highbridge, and needing to get home to Leamington Spa. He then asked for cash from the organisation.
The Legion chairman says the same man was seen spinning an identical yarn at St Andrew's Church the following day, and even meets the description of a man reported for trying a similar con in Bristol earlier this year.
