AS A member of the Taunton Swimming Club for 67 years, an honorary life member, a past coach, chairman, and Somerset County President, I was amazed to read last week's article, 'Swimmers left high and dry'.
To my knowledge, the only person who fell into the water was a lady sat on the bath side, protected by a waist high canvas sheet (to save anyone getting splashed), when she became so excited with the water polo match she fell in, complete with fur coat and hat and was 'rescued' by the late Tiny Weaver! She returned the following week.
If the health and safety feel the pool balcony is unsafe, will we be having the roads in town closed, because of the bridges, and I just wonder about the river banks, Goodland Gardens, Vivary Park etc. and 'heaven forbid' what about churches or chapels with balconies!
