A NEW High Sheriff has been selected for Somerset.
Fiona Densham of Church Walk, Wring-ton, was officially selected for the position, along with nominees for every other county in England and Wales, at a 1,000-year-old ceremony at the Royal Courts of Justice in London last week.
The role of the High Sheriff dates back to the days before the Norman Conquest, when they were used to collect money for the monarch as well as be the principal law enforcement officer for the county.
