Proposals for the future of the Slapton coast road in south went on show to the public in Torcross this week.
A firm of consultants has recommended that the road on a shingle bank between Slapton and Torcross be moved slightly further inland.
The aim is to try and protect it from storms which washed it away in 2001 and made it impassable in October.
English Nature says the road, next to a wildlife haven, must go.
