A CAMBORNE student whose dream motorbike was damaged beyond repair after he swerved to avoid a cyclist has been left more than £3,000 out of pocket.

Daniel Luke, from Pendrea Park, Camborne, was described as a hero for avoiding the cyclist on the A3047, outside Redruth School.

But his Kawasaki 600 Ninja motorbike, which cost £3,200, is now a write-off and he's not sure how he can claim for the cost of a replacement. His own insurance was not comprehensive and the cyclist he swerved to avoid is not legally required to have cover.

The 20-year-old said: "I saw the bike on the central reservation and I thought he was going to wait there. I was actually braking when I saw him but then he pulled out in front. The only action I could take was to swerve out the way.
