HELSTON 3 ST STEPHENS 4
A RUN in the Cornwall Senior Cup always adds spice to a season, but Helston bowed out of the competition at the first attempt when they were beaten 4-3 by East Cornwall Premier League side St Stephens at a windswept Kellaway Park.
There was a remarkable contrast in fortunes in this fixture with Helston seemingly on their way to victory having built up a two-goal lead, but it all went pearshaped in the second half as the visitors scored four times to clinch victory.
"On the day I think St Stephens just about deserved to win it, so I have no complaints," said manager Kevin Goldsworthy.
"It was a credit to our groundstaff that the game was actually played, but overall I thought St Stephens were much stronger and that showed against our younger side.
"I also took the opportunity to give some players who have not been getting a regular game the chance of a start, but overall St Stephens adjusted much better to the conditions.
"It would have been nice to get a big club in the next round of the Senior Cup, but I thought the score was a fair reflection."
