DEFENDING champions Truro produced a steady performance in the first round of the Shoulder to Shoulder championship. Shooting at home against the newly formed Penzance and St Ives "A" team, Truro scored 487 (ex 500) versus a spirited 485.

The match always promised to be close, as many of the shooters in the newly combined Penzance and St Ives team shot for the former runners up in last year's title race, St Ives.

Truro's captain, Steve Sandercock, was overall top scorer on the night with 99 (ex 100), with team mates Peter Wild and Fred Teagle both scoring 98s. Roy Owen and Mrs Judy Harris contributed a 96 each. Pat Emmerson was top scorer for Penzance and St Ives with a 98, just beating her captain (and husband) John Emmerson who scored a 97.

Truro's next match in the Shoulder to Shoulder league is again at home, this time against the Penzance and St Ives "B" team.

Truro's defence of the National Team Handicap competition was not so convincing. Although Roy Owen and Steve Sandercock both scored estimated 100s, an estimated 99 from Jacob Collins and 98 from Fred Teagle, means Truro have a nervous wait for the cards to be officially marked by an independent scorer, to see if this is good enough for them to progress into the second round.
