THE future of Truro City Football Club appears to have been secured following a meeting involving the club and the man who is offering them a lifeline, Mr Kevin Heaney.

Despite fears that it would all fall through at the 11th hour following the trustees' decision not to sign a previous agreement just two weeks ago, all parties now appear happy that the plans on the table offer the club a safe and exciting future.

However, there is still one hurdle to overcome. The latest developments will require the approval of another EGM, but that should be no more than a formality given that just a few weeks ago they rubber-stamped the original plan.

The solicitors of both parties met last Wednesday to finally agree the details and following a club committee meeting during the evening the following information was released to the press by vice-chairman Mr Chris Webb.

"Truro City AFC is pleased to announce that they have agreed, in principle, a rescue package with Kevin Heaney.

"The club is currently in serious debt and is trading at a loss. Under the new arrangements, the trustees will lease the ground to Mr Heaney who will form a company to run the club.

"All debts will be paid off so that the club's future is assured. The trustees of the club will retain the freehold of the ground thus ensuring the future of football in the city.

"The proposals are subject to the approval of an EGM to be held on Monday, November 8. The venue and time of the EGM will be announced in the press."

Bob Wignall, chairman of the club, said: "This ends a very worrying period in the club's history. With our recent success on the pitch, I look forward to a great season."

Kevin Heaney, a passionate soccer supporter, added: "This is part of my commitment to Truro - the club is an important resource and I will be working with all those concerned."
