YOUNGSTERS from the Cornwall College's Prince's Trust group have just finished building a Time Out Zone at SK8 Mount Hawke.
The challenge was to turn a derelict piece of land at Mount Hawke Youth Group into a useable area in just two weeks.
The team, called Team84, was made up of two employed team members and six unemployed members. They decided to design and build a barbecue and seating area at the skate park.
Team 84 was also responsible for fundraising for the Time out Zone project, so they could buy materials and equipment for the project.
Owain Thomas, team leader, said: "Getting involved in community ventures such as this one is such an important part of their studies.
"The team have to over come many challenges, learn new skills, improve confidence and gain experience from the project," he said
Mr Thomas said the building work had to be done alongside the rest of the group's 12-week course, making the completed project all the more amazing.
"To see what a team of young people can do with little or no experience is fantastic," he said
Mr Thomas estimated that by the end of the 12 week programme each individual would have put back £7,250 into the community through time, fundraising and work.
Deanna Bullivant, from Mount Hawke SK8, said: "The young people worked extremely hard to create this area and demonstrated the skills, planning, creatively and teamwork needed to complete such a physical task."
