THE black and white of Cornish and Breton flags flew from the Municipal Buildings in Boscawen Street, Truro, to welcome visitors from Morlaix on their 25th annual twinning visit to the City of Truro.

The lashing rain of Saturday did little to dampen spirits at the official reception in the newly refurbished Town Hall, where guests were welcomed by the Mayor of Truro, Cllr Mrs Armorel Carlyon.

"Cousins Jacks", the school choir from Richard Lander, (with not a cousin Jenny among them), directed by Mr Russell Pascoe, entertained the gathering with animated singing.

Then followed speeches in both French and English by the Maire adjointe de Morlaix, Madame Marie-Jose Bras; the visiting president from Morlaix, Madame Catherine Paul; and the Truro host's chairman, Mrs Suzanne Ashworth.

A surprise interruption came with the delivery of a pasty (still hot from the oven) by Clarice Mortensen-Fowler for the mayor to present to one of the French guests. It was presented to Madame Bras, the leader of the 46 strong Morlaix delegation.

A talk by David Harris MEP and MP (retired) on the subject of EU enlargement was well received, and a finger buffet provided by the Truro Morlaix Twinning Association rounded off the proceedings.
