FALMOUTH TOWN 1 WADEBRIDGE TOWN 1

(Falmouth Town won 5-3 on penalties)

Falmouth Town laid to rest their penalty shootout hoodoo by emerging victorious and with all five penalties being scored to defeat Wadebridge Town in the first round of the Durning Lawrence Cornwall Charity Cup.

Over the course of the evening, Falmouth were frustrated by the referee giving free kicks on the edge of the box for petty fouls and not surprisingly the sides went in at the break still goalless but not for the want of trying.

It took seven minutes of the second half for a goal and it went to the Bridgers. A cross from the left by Jon May deceived Duncan Ayres and Martin Day was on hand to clear off the line but only as far as Nathan Cudmore who blasted his shot past Ayres, Day and Rob Troon to score.

Five minutes later Falmouth were level. A foul on the edge of the box led to a direct free kick being awarded. Darren Burchell stepped up and beat the six-man wall as Gears could only palm the ball into the net.

On the disciplinary side, two bookings followed in a five-minute spell. Josh Insley was booked for a foul on Carlton Farnham and Martin Day was booked for a foul on Nathan Cudmore, although as the referee initially waved play on, Cudmore was then felled by his own player, his cousin James Cudmore!
