LIEUTENANT Commander Mark Teasdale from RNAS Culdrose had a "doubly special day" when he presented his own father with a veteran's award.

The logistics officer, who lives in Carnon Downs, said he felt honoured and proud as he handed World War II navy veteran Bob Teasdale the award.

Lt Cdr Teasdale made presentations to 58 World War II veterans at Truro Royal British Legion and among them was his father.

"The day was quite special, with society reflecting on the service of 60 years ago, and it was certainly a pleasure to give my own father his own award - it made the day doubly special," said Lt Cdr Teasdale.

Bob Teasdale, who organised the presentation, left his own name of the list of those receiving the special lapel badges but his son did not let him get away with it. At the end of the presentations Lt Cdr Teasdale called his father up to receive the award.

The lapel badges were awarded to the World War II veterans after work by the Ministry of Defence and Royal British Legion to recognise the service they gave to their country.
