THE many and varied facilities on offer at Mullion's new youth and community centre were unveiled to the public at a series of open days last week.

The old youth club in Nansmellyon Road has been transformed into a "one stop shop" providing facilities for all ages including free ICT access and training, employment services, youth services and a registered creche.

Since moving into the centre six weeks ago, organisations based at the premises, including The Learning Shop, Lizard Pathways to Employment and The Children's Fund, have already helped many people from across the Lizard peninsula.

Regular youth nights have been established, as have a weekly farmers' market and a yoga class. A surf club and basketball sessions are now planned.

The centre has a meeting room and two halls, which are available for rent to community groups.

An official launch event is to be held in the New Year, but in the meantime the centre's management committee is planning to hold a meeting to try to find "proactive, community-minded" people to take the project forward.

Centre manager Emily Roberts said: "Some of the committee members have stood on the committee for 15 years - from the old youth club days - and having achieved the mammoth task of getting the centre open again are ready to pass the project on."

Anyone interested in getting involved is asked to contact the centre on 01326 241552.
