THE Chief Constable Steve Pilkington plans to blaze a trail through the Avon and Somerset force area to raise thousands of pounds for charity.
Mr Pilkington plans to cover some 350 miles on a sponsored cycle ride in December.He hopes to raise £50,000 which he will donate to the Babe's Big Appeal, which is raising funds to provide a new children's hospice at Charlton Farm, Wraxall.
Mr Pilkington, who retires from the force in January, said: "I am not one for great retirement events and I wanted to do something a bit different.
"I have always been quite good at raising money and I have always had strong interest in children's welfare."
Colleagues from within the force will be joining the chief during various stages of his cycle ride, which starts on December 17 at force headquarters at Portishead. He will finish at Portishead on December 23.
The route will take him to Crewkerne on December 19-20.
