Publicans at the Falmouth Arms in Ladock, home to Lord Lieutenant Lady Mary Holborow, were quick off the mark when they learnt of plans to start a new fund through the Lieutenancy to raise £100,000 for young people in Cornwall.

Pub landlady Brenda Hallett said: "We know the Lord Lieutenant does a huge amount of work in helping raise funds for many important charities in Cornwall and when we heard of Lady Mary's plans we wanted to support her. We particularly like the fact that this is a fund which will help young people who may be in a situation where they would not get these advantages without the fund."

About £1,300 was raised by Eddie and Brenda Hallett, The Falmouth Arms landlords, who held a Ladstock festival, organised by Pete Swan, comprising local Cornish Bands, featuring an African Drum Band which played thirty different types of drum and the Laddock Infants School Choir.

Lady Mary said: "It was fantastic to see the local village community get behind this idea and raise funds before we were officially launched. It was a great boost to our confidence that a fund for young people in Cornwall was so well received - I really hope people will give generously so that we can offer some wonderfully opportunities to talented young people who otherwise might not flourish and reach their full potential."
