Police are appealing for information after someone used chemicals to kill a quantity of fish at a fish farm in Somerset.
This happened sometime between 13.30hrs and 18.00hrs on Tuesday, October 19, at a fish farm in Coombe St Nicholas. Someone tipped two kilogrammes of a chemical fish treatment into a tank.
This chemical is used to help prevent parasites at fish farms but the amount poured into the tank was well in excess of the usual dose and consquently killed hundreds of trout.
Some of the substance also went into the River Isle and the Environment Agency is now dealing with this.
The nature of the chemical used is such that anyone who handles it is likely to have distinctive blue stains on their hands for some time afterwards.
Police are urging anyone with information on who might be responsible for this incident to call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
