ANYONE noticing a shortage of Yorkie bars in Taunton's supermarkets last week can blame a team of intrepid adventurers from a Taunton health insurance firm.

The three WPA workers bought up 230 of the chocolate bars before heading off to northern Canada in preparation for the ten-team race to the North Pole.

This week, they are undergoing their final acclimatisation training at Resolute Bay before starting the 280-mile Polar Challenge tomorrow (Saturday).

Rob Richardson, Tansy Hanson and Richard Tutill will spend the next fortnight each pulling a 90kg sled across the Arctic in temperatures as low as -50F.

They hope to raise thousands of pounds for good causes.
