THE West Somerset Coroner is calling for tighter controls on binge-drinking promotions following the death of a Taunton drink-driver.

Michael Rose is writing to the Home Secretary after an inquest heard Shaun Patrick O'Shea crashed his car after downing his "money's worth" in a nightclub.

The court was told that Mr O'Shea, 32, and his girlfriend had been to several pubs, including Ether, in Church Square, where customers can drink as much as they like after paying £15 entry.

Mr Rose said: "I don't think there's a city or town in the South-West that wouldn't wish to have the power to limit these promotions."
