Screwfix League, Div 1: Wellington 1, Clyst Rovers 5
WELLINGTON'S nightmare 2003-04 home season finally came to a merciful end on Easter Monday morning when Clyst went home with a big win to their credit as the Tangerines went down by this margin for the second time in six days.
As when Weston St Johns meted out the same treatment last week, Clyst Rovers' course to a match-winning lead was all too easy as they cruised to a 3-0 lead without any trouble.
Clyst attackers strolled through Wellington's defensive rearguard and picked off two easy-as-you-like goals and a third from a header that was simply not picked up gave the visitors a comfortable advantage at the break.
Alex Piper - who works so hard for Wellington - pulled one back and had Greg Hammond connected with Piper's cross shot the score would have been 3-2 and the game was on again.
But Clyst produced more pressure and a messy move ended up with an easy conversion being achieved and Wellington's day was summed up when a deflected free kick left Pete Land stranded and at 5-1 Clyst had a powerful win to go home with.
