A couple of years ago, Mr David Thomas, president and recorder of Camborne Old Cornwall Society, was informed of the discovery of an ancient Cornish cross. For many years the cross had been inverted and half buried in the ground to act as a gatepost.

Thanks to the support from the farmer who discovered the cross it has been re-erected by members of Camborne Old Cornwall Society at a location at Gwellavellan, Kehelland, Camborne, close to its original position. The roadside site is in an attractive position overlooking St Ives Bay. It is thought that its original position was adjacent to an ancient path that ran from Gwithian to Camborne Church Town via Menadarva.

It has been decided to re-dedicate the cross, which will be officially unveiled by the Grand Bard of Cornwall, Mr Rod Lyon, at 2.45pm on Saturday, May 22, following a procession of Old Cornwall Society and other banners led by the Cornish piper Mr Rob Strike.

The vicar of Penponds will perform the dedication ceremony.

Following the ceremony there will be light refreshments and a talk on ancient Cornish crosses by Mr Andrew Langdon.
