Camborne 50pts Los Troncos (Chile) 20pts

CAMBORNE ran in eight sparkling tries to defeat the lively and sporting touring side from Chile, Los Troncos XV in front of a good sized crowd at the Recreation Ground.

Starting strongly, the Cherry and Whites went 19-0 up inside 15 minutes. Flanker Dan Kennedy touched down early on with skipper Ian Morgan converting from near the posts.

Back in the Camborne jersey, full back Adrian Downing showed his pace to score a fifth minute try and slick handling then brought a corner try for wing Kelvin Smitham converted majestically by centre Morgan.

Los Troncos began to find their feet and on the half hour opened their account with a chip and chase try for full back Cristobal Berti. The brother of Camborne's Seb then converted and made it 19-10 minutes later with a simple penalty.

Moving the ball wide at every opportunity the home side attacked from deep, but an interception allowed centre Felipe Trujillo to race clear to touch down and reduce the arrears to four points.

Moments before the interval Kennedy provided the pass to send fly half Berti over for the fourth Camborne try with Morgan converting for a 26-15 half time scoreline.

Four minutes into the second period left wing Les Smitham cut inside from his flank to score a fine try again converted by Morgan.

Smitham then added a delightful individual try for his 15th touchdown of his farewell season to put Town 38-15 up.

Still inside the hour, long-serving prop Andy Bartle dived over for a rare try wide out as the home side went out of sight of the visitors.

The Chileans played their part with Berti and Trujillo always dangerous with ball in hand.

Ten minutes from time flanker Dave Roberts romped over for the final home try with scrum half David Mankee converting to bring up the half century.

On the final whistle Los Troncos earned a loud cheer with wing Alvaro Tapia running in their third deserved try to complete an entertaining game.

This Saturday Camborne play their final league game when they visit Tregeseal Valley for a Western Counties match with St Just.
