A NEW cross dominated the Carn Brea skyline after it was erected in time for the Easter celebrations.
The cross replaced the old, heavy wooden one which had previously been manoeuvred into position for so many years by willing volunteers from the Redruth Baptist Church.
Made locally by Tris Cokes and his team at Home Blown, who are more used to making surf boards, the cross is made from similar materials comprising glass fibre shell around a foam core making it light but strong.
Home Blown rose to the challenge in making the cross knowing it would need to last many years in the wild conditions on the Carn.
Andrew Chapple, an elder of the baptist church in Redruth, said: "We love to raise the cross at Easter to remind everyone of the central message of the Christian faith.
The cross may be new, but the message had remained unchanged for nearly 2,000 years, he added.
