A selection of organically grown herbs are available at a new herb garden in Carleen which officially opened to the public on Friday.

Planet Herb is the brainchild of Fran Swanson, who used to be head herb grower at Halzephron Herb Farm, Gunwalloe, and still supplies the business, which has now moved to St Ives.

The Carleen venture, located at Valentine's Field, Carnmeal Farm, offers customers the opportunity to buy growing herbs and seek advice on a vast array of plants.

There is also the chance to see a sensory garden, which is being created with visitors including the partially sighted and wheelchair users in mind.

Fran, who lives in St Ives, said she had been looking for a suitable site for a herb farm for some time.

"This site is really lovely. It's very sheltered and has all the facilities I need," she said. "People should bear in mind that you don't need to have a garden for growing herbs. They will be just as at home in patio pots, hanging baskets or a windowsill container, preferably in a warm sunny spot."

Fran has been supported in her venture by Lizard Pathways, the Helston Lizard Small Business Network and Taste of the West.

Planet Herb is open to the public from 10am to 4pm on Fridays and from 10am to 1pm on Saturdays. Products are also available on-line at www.buycornwall.co.uk.
