St Keverne's old fire engine looks set to go to the kingdom of Nepal in Southern Asia - if fundraisers can raise enough money to get it there.

Cornwall County Fire Brigade has donated the engine to the appeal as part of its project to help provide third world country with better equipment.

The fire engine spent its life at St Keverne Fire Station until being replaced with a new fire engine last year. The donated fire engine has been reconditioned by the engineering department at Camborne Fire Station and is now ready to work in Nepal.

"The request for a reconditioned fire engine came from Falmouth restaurant owner Mr Prasad Sharma," said Falmouth station officer Nigel Vincent.

"His connections with Nepal have made him aware of the poor standard of fire fighting facilities in the country," he added.

Nigel said that Cornwall County Fire Brigade's aim is to save lives and prevent fires and where possible it would like to extend this beyond the county border.

Mr Sharma and Falmouth firefighters held a special fundraising event in Falmouth town centre on Tuesday to raise money for the St Keverne fire engine's trip.
