Police have called off searches for a missing 63-year-old Devon yachtsman until they receive more specific information.

Keith Smith, from Slapton, South Devon, was reported missing by his wife early on Friday after failing to return from an overnight sailing trip.

A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesman said officers were continuing to interview Mr Smith's family, friends and members of the local boating fraternity.

It is thought Mr Smith may have fallen overboard. A spokesman for Devon and Cornwall police said that Mr Smith's yacht, named Maid of Slapton, was found moored on the River Tamar, just north of Cargreen, Cornwall, with his belongings on board.

He said the family last had contact with him by phone at 9am on Wednesday last week when he told them he was "safe and well."
