NOT many district councils can claim to be at the cutting edge of electronic dance music, but this is just what has happened to Kerrier.

Former Truro School boy Luke Vibert's latest release on the "coolest record label in the world" Rephlex, is indeed entitled Kerrier District.

Luke went to Truro School and Truro sixth form college before launching his career as a world renowned music artist and DJ.

Described as a delectable slice of musical pleasure singularly dedicated to the delights of disco music, the vinyl only Kerrier District album was released this month.

Luke grew up in Kerrier, not a place known for it's glittering debonair nightlife, but it's a name that Luke says sounds pretty cool.

A spokesman for David Sillifant, strategic director for external services at Kerrier district council, said that it was flattered that the project had been named after it.

"On behalf of the district we're flattered that Luke has chosen to name his latest project after the area where he grew up. It's great to know that there are artists with their roots in Kerrier who are at the forefront of producting innovative new music. We wish him every success with the record."

A contemporary of Rephlex label boss Richard James, better known as the Aphex Twin, Luke Vibert has released music under various pseudonyms.

These include the off-kilt funk of Wagon Christ, the seminal drum 'n' bass of Plug and a collaboration with steel guitarist BJ Cole as well as remixing a host of his peers. He also regularly DJ's all over the world.

All Rephlex staff still come from Cornwall. They even attend the same school as Luke. Richard is the odd one out having gone to Redruth School.

Another friend of the early Rephlex group was the brother of Fame Academy winner Alex Parks.

Dan Parks did the art work for several early Aphex Twin releases such as the On and Ventolin singles and Ambient Works 2.
