POLICE were called to a West Somerset first school after a parent claimed to have a seen a man carrying two carving knives last Friday evening.
The parent was walking home along the district council-owned path near Knights Templar First School, Watchet, at about 4.30pm when she reportedly saw a man with the knives.
She then went home and phoned the police and the school.
Headteacher Alan Woollam said: "The parent was worried. We had a party at the school at the time so we advised parents collecting their children to use the main school entrance.
"By that stage the police had been and checked everything.
"I feel reassured that the police will make a full investigation because we have to protect our children.
"We're 100 per cent behind the parent for letting us know."
Police in Williton confirmed the report but said there was no evidence of the man or the knives.
