METRO madness took over at Westworld last Sunday with 52 little Mini Metros taking to the track to crash their way to a Share of the £500 prize money.

Included in the line up was one stretch Metro, or in simple terms three Metros welded together, and although an awesome sight it faired no better than the small ones.

The field was split into two heats for the first race, with Richard Hornell from Ivybridge and Alestor Buckan from Torbay taking first in their respective races. The 40 remaining cars were again split into heats and once again Richard Hornell took first in one heat and a visiting driver from Dunkeswell secured the other first place.

With a line up of 44 cars the final was all out mayhem and madness, and after 20 hard fought laps the local lad Mike Alee from Saltash took the chequered flag and the honours, Alestor Buckan took second and Steve Henty (Tin Tin) was third.

The final race of the day was the Destruction Derby and with 22 cars still running at the start carnage ensued until the only car still with a spark of life was the winner Marcus Alee from Saltash.

Other formulas racing were Junior Minis who had improved their performance since their last outing Craig Deer taking heat one and two and Lee Cornelius taking his debut win in the final.

In the Cornish Rods, Jose James, one of the few lady drivers, celebrated her first win on her daughter's third birthday, and then had a party to attend cutting short her afternoon's racing. Heat two was won by Steve Cock from Falmouth and the final by returning driver Nigel Wherry.

The next meeting is on July 20 with the team of four 1800cc bangers when once again £500 is up for grabs, and full supporting programme.
