BURNHAM reached the halfway stage of the season with a convincing win at Chew Magna on Saturday. Their fifth victory in nine games leaves them comfortably placed near the top of the table.

Captain Jim Bloodworth put the home side in bat on a wicket, which had signs of deteriorating as the game progressed. This decision did not receive complete approval but the captain was proved to be correct, as the result showed.

Openers Whitcombe and Gatton began brightly and took 30 runs from the first six overs, but when Tom Coombes pitched one short, Whitcombe, going for the pull shot, got a top edge and was caught by Brian Brogden at short leg.
