THE yearly fun race known as the Menagerie Race was held on Thursday and lived up to its name.

A strange collection of boats dressed in Roman togas, Bob the Builder overalls, Grand prix racing gear and the odd vestal virgin, had a cheerful sail to Mylor Sailing Club who offered a lively reception before a sail back to Flushing Sailing Club where Anne Hunt had prepared a fine meal to cover all tastes.

Results based primarily on effort and enthusiasm: 1, Southern Comfort (C Choak); 2, Nica (L Cheshire); 3, Redgauntlet (W Hunt).

Miller Countrywide Second Tuesday Series proved another well supported race with 58 or more boats on the water. The north west wind remained strong enough to give a good night's racing for most and the rain kept off.

The committee boat, positioned under St Mawes Castle, meant watching out for shallow water but gave an excellent beat across to the first Boathouse mark. The beat up to the finishing line saw a mixture of classes all competing for space with A class and workboats vying for the best wind.

J class are seeing some changes with Phil Samuels now the owner of Jezebel and renamed Jasper. Last week's results did not, therefore, give him credit for the first place he obtained, Keith Leary has also bought another J so watch this space.

In A class a Blazer crew member suffered an injury which the skipper felt impeded what would have been a shining win and it was only a damaged finger?

G class new member Magpie hopes to be racing next week having suffered two weeks of setbacks. Will third time be lucky?
