Villagers in Germoe witnessed an idyllic scene when schoolchildren danced around the maypole on a perfect summer's evening.

The weather was in stark contrast to the occasion last month when pupils planned to resurrect the age-old tradition of maypole dancing on the village green, but were forced to take cover in torrential rain and gale-force winds.

This time, conditions were ideal and the young dancers were able to show off their talents to an admiring audience of parents and friends.

The midsummer fun continued back at the school with activities including an auction, five-a-side football and snail races using wooden snails, as well as plentiful strawberries and cream.

Organised by the Friends of Germoe School, the event raised around £530 for school funds.
