TRURO City Football Club will be hopefully looking forward to a much brighter future after taking the first steps to encourage youngsters to become involved in the game.

They have launched a youth soccer school training programme which will be run and organised under the guidance of former City player and manager Chris Webb.

"We will be kicking off our first session on Friday, August 8, at Penair School and it will be for those aged 10 16," said Chris. "Boys and girls are invited to attend and anyone from any club is welcome to join in. This is not about poaching players from other clubs, but offering them the opportunity of learning and enjoying everything about football through a team of qualified coaches."

Webb, the club's youth development officer, stressed that the scheme was very much one for the community: "This scheme is for the community and I am delighted that having contacted a number of local businesses about providing sponsorship, many of them have decided to support us to get the scheme up and running.

"We had nothing to begin with, but now, thanks to our sponsors, we have a properly organised soccer school with all the necessary equipment."

The club would also be pleased to hear from any other business who would be interested in helping with sponsorship for the scheme. They should contact Chris Webb on 01872 222931 or 0797 4175391.

Parents who wish to obtain more information about the scheme should also ring those numbers.
