Grampound Road's continued improvement in fortunes continued on Saturday in their home game with Menheniot in which they gained a winning draw after hitting a massive 321-5 in a full 55 overs, writes Michael Weeks.

The only outright winner on the day was an excellent batting pitch.

Martin Pearce was the star of the show for the home team. He hit a marvellous 129 off 133 balls including four sixes and 20 fours. Grampound Road, having been put in by Hugh Rogers, responded in spectacular fashion. Pearce and Adam Brenton opened with 79 in 21 overs. Brenton was caught behind off Rogers for 26 after an hour at the crease.

Simon James was dismissed cheaply but Pearce and county colleague Chris Hunkin went on to take the Menheniot attack apart. The pair added a splendid 146 in just 15 overs before Hunkin was dismissed for 62 off 53 balls. Pearce was caught and bowled by Simon Hunt soon after at 261-4 in the 48th over.

Dave Wilton weighed in at the end with 25, at a run a ball as Grampound Road reached the heights of 321-5. Alex Tunnadine took 2-45, Simon Hunt 2-81, and Lloyd Sluman 2-94.

Menheniot responded well with Tunnadine having hit 52 off 49 balls with a six and 10 fours caught and bowled by Pearce. Lee went on to reach 50 in a two hour stay at the crease. He was fourth out at 154.

Hopes off a win for the home team were scuppered by Hunt, who made 85 including a six and 18 fours. Chris Headon and Andrew Keeble saw out the closing overs to gain the draw.

Pearce took 3-60 from 14 overs and Hunkin 2-70 from 16 overs.
