Another serious indecent assault on a woman has taken place in Truro, the second in two weeks.

Although the two incidents are not linked, police are concerned and are urging all women to take care when walking through the city streets.

The attacks have also brought calls for more closed circuit television cameras to be placed in the city centre, particularly around the cathedral, where the first assault took place.

The latest attack has been described as "a particularly nasty sexual attack" and took place late on Tuesday night as a 17-year-old was walking near the Moorfield car park. She was set upon by a man described as a "tattooed skinhead".

The area is near to a popular part of the city where there are nightclubs and bars, and has access through to Lemon Street.

"This was a particularly nasty sexual attack," said PC Bob Wheeler.

Police are hoping that other people may have been in the vicinity of the attack and witnessed or heard something.

The girl has given police a good description of the man said to have attacked her.

He was white, six foot tall, of stocky build with a grade one haircut. What little hair he had was brown in colour. He also had facial stubble and brown eyes. He was aged between the late 20s and early 30s.

PC Wheeler said the man was tattooed with Celtic designs on the inside of both arms and was wearing a short-sleeved, white shirt with blue check lines, blue, baggy jeans and dark trainers. He also had prominent cheek bones.

WPC Jo Sodergren, of Truro CID, who is charge of the investigation, is seeking the help of anyone who may have been in the area.

The previous week a 21-year-old woman was alleged to have been seriously sexually assaulted near Union Place leading to Truro Cathedral. People at High Cross and Union Place found the area cordoned off when they arrived for work the morning after the attack.

DC Sally Harrison, in charge of that in-vestigation, said the woman had been the victim of a serious indecent assault but it was not rape. The area around the cath-edral was crawling with police officers for several hours.

Closed circuit television cameras in the city have proved hugely successful in recent months but there are continuous calls for more to be installed. Campaigns for cameras near the cathedral have been unsuccessful to date.
