An urgent appeal has gone out from the Truro Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society (TAODS) for a new member with no acting experience necessary. The group are very certain of what this new member must look and behave like. A pony is needed!

The pony is required to star in the production of Yeomen of the Guard at Trelissick Gardens, near Truro and must be free to star in shows from July 22-26. The pony must be well behaved and quiet, although no acting experience is necessary.

The Yeomen of the Guard is one of Gilbert and Sullivan's most popular operettas and, with the performance taking place in the open air courtyard of the National Trust's Trelissick Garden near Truro, it should not only be a popular production, but also an effective one with such an outstanding surrounding.

The play has everything expected of a Gilbert and Sullivan piece with an element of pathos. This is supplied by the plays' jester, Jack Point, who is played by Ken Polmounter. Other stars in the play are Bryony Taylor, who will be singing her first leading role with TAODS as Points' young companion, Elsie Maynard. Liesel Parris plays Phoebe, with her Father, Sergeant Meryll being played by Stuart Skeplorn. The other principal roles are taken by Glenn Moses, Susan Odgers and Chas Rimmer.

With these stars, and Brian Odgers, a man well-known for his innovative and imaginative productions, as the director, a great show is promised. Tudor dances will be performed by the company prior to 'curtain up' and during the interval so the audience will be kept entertained.

Performances are from Tuesday July 22 to Saturday 26 July at 7.30pm. Tickets are £8 and are available on 01872 862090, or from Solo Music, Pydar Street, Truro.
