Yeovil Town will begin life in the Football League with a visit to Rochdale on August 9 (writes Steve Sowden).

While fans would probably have wished for a home match at Huish Park to baptise their entry into the Football League, supporters are now planning to make the long trip north in their thousands to witness the Glovers' historic match.

Yeovil's opening home league game of the season will come seven days later when Carlisle United are the visitors to Huish Park.

In between those games Yeovil will play their first-ever match in the Carling Cup -- the League Cup -- on August 13 at Luton Town.

Yeovil manager Gary Johnson (pictured above) said: "I think the best thing about the fixtures is to see Yeovil Town amongst them. It really tells you that it wasn't a dream and we are in Division Three.

"As to the games themselves, you can never really tell can you? People tell me we have a few of the teams that finished close to the bottom of Division Three last season. Trouble is they know they finished down the bottom so they will have recruited players to make sure it doesn't happen again. They could turn out to be the teams at the top next season!"

Yeovil's first 'local derby' comes on September 27 when Torquay United are the visitors to Huish Park. Yeovil travel to face another West Country team, Cheltenham Town, on October 4 and visit the Memorial Ground to meet Bristol Rovers on December 13.

Johnson added: "As you know I always look at things in groups of ten games and I shall continue with that policy in Division Three.

"After ten games we will have a chance to see exactly how things are shaping up and, in particular, how the team is performing.

"One thing I do know is that every game will be an event to look forward to for myself, the players and the supporters."
