Helston School and Community College was declared the overall winner in the Schools Marine Challenge following an exciting final race at Roadford Lake, near Okehampton.
Ten South West schools took part in the challenge, which involved designing, building and racing model powerboats.
The victorious Helston students who also won the best team trophy and came second in the radio-controlled powerboat
section, impressed the judges with their great teamwork and design skills.
The aim of the challenge was to raise awareness of marine engineering among schoolchildren.
Each team was supported by a marine company, with Pips Model Engineers, of Plymouth, sponsoring the Helston team.
The event was organised by Marine Southwest and supported by the British Marine Federation and South West Regional Development Agency.
