CREDITON will finally join the Broadband Internet revolution at the start of September, but one Cullompton resident is still battling to bring it to his town.

September 10 will be a historic day for Crediton because Broadband will arrive after a long campaign started by resident Mike Brett and leading Internet Service Provider Eclipse Internet, to bring the fast new Internet service to Mid Devon.

Crediton was originally set a target by BT of getting 450 people to register interest in the new Internet connection.

Now that target has been achieved BT will upgrade the Crediton telephone exchanges, giving all businesses and homes with a five kilometre radius of the exchange access to Internet up to 40 times faster.

Jill Davis, special projects manager at Eclipse Internet and winner of the ISPA Best Business Broadband Provider said: " The Broadband4Crediton campaign is a great example of how residents all across the country have banded together to ensure their local exchanges will be broadband enabled.

"Mike Brett has spearheaded a very effective campaign in the Crediton area and as a new resident who will soon be able to enjoy fast, always on Internet access, I am pleased to offer him my personal thanks.

"I hope that Crediton's success will encourage residents in non-enabled areas to register, and I am delighted to hear that the campaign will continue to help drive demand in Crediton's outlying areas.

"Everyone can help raise awareness of the benefits of broadband, whether through posting leaflets through doors (as I did), talking to neighbours or showing posters in their windows."

Eclipse Internet has been working closely with local communities throughout the country to raise awareness of broadband and stimulate demand levels.

James Voller of Cullompton, is a writer who is eager for the town to get broadband and is finding it frustrating that not enough people have registered their support for the service.

He said: "I gather from BT the present situation is that 235 interests have been registered, but that nothing will happen until the magic 350 is reached.
