THE take-over of a struggling Norton Fitzwarren firm means a boost for the environment and new jobs.

The company which has bought the former Polyline ReProcessor Ltd on Taunton Trading Estate has already invested hundreds of thousands of pounds.

The firm, now owned by Material Recovery Ltd, recycles plastics collected from banks across Taunton Deane and, now, a large swathe of the South-West, the South and the Midlands.

General manager John Gibbins said: "We were set up a year ago and have really struggled to get where we are.

"We were drastically under-funded and things were so tight that we could have closed.

"But now we've been taken over by a national company and we're taking on new staff, and buying new equipment and machinery.

"It's a success story and a boost for the area."

The firm is looking to double its current workforce of four with the promise of even more jobs in the next six months -vacancies are likely to be for machine operators, drivers and forklift truck drivers.

Included in the new equipment is a £500,000 state-of-the-art machine which arrived at the end of last week.
