A £17,000 cash boost will enable 36 new childcare places to be created in Taunton.

The money, which comes from the New Opportunities Fund out of school hours childcare programme, will go to the Somerset College of Arts and Technology, Taunton.

The extra cash is part of £156,794 for 293 new childcare places to be created in 13 places around the county.

Cllr Paddy MacMaster, chair of Somerset Early Years Development and Childcare Partnership (EYDCP) welcomed the extra funding.

"I am delighted that 36 childcare places can be created by this latest round of NOF funding, helping to support local families.

"Congratulations and thanks are also due to our Taunton Deane childcare advisory team who provide practical help and support to bidding providers."

Julie Whatford, childcare marketing officer for Somerset EYDCP added: "Groups within all five district council areas have benefited from this new round of funding, helping children and families throughout Somerset, and supporting the EYDCP's work to extend quality childcare".

The EYDCP has representatives from over 45 organisations across the county, who all have an interest in providing good quality early years education, childcare, play, family support and training for carers.
