A FIVE-MONTH-OLD baby was taken screaming to hospital after being hit on the head by a metal bar at a car boot sale near Taunton.
Kayleigh Jade Winter was in her dad Scott's arms at Prockters Farm car boot sale in Monkton Heathfield when the accident happened.
Mum Jemma is appealing for information about the accident. She said the rectangular metal bar was a clothes rail used by a woman on a neighbouring pitch.
After the accident on Sunday, June 8, at about 12.30pm, Kayleigh was taken to Musgrove Park Hospital with bruising above her eyebrow. She has recovered, but her parents hope witnesses will come forward with information.
Jemma said: "It's for our peace of mind. I saw the rail fall on my daughter and another lady. I want to know whether it snapped or whether it was the wind. It's also for safety reasons to make sure it doesn't happen again."
Jemma said the rail was about 6ft square and held children's clothes.
She said: "The lady said she was really sorry, but I couldn't speak to her -- I couldn't speak to anyone. My daughter was screaming and in pain."
Jemma said when Scott returned to the sale the woman had gone.
"I'm appealing for anyone who witnessed the accident or the lady who ran the stall to get in contact with me.
"Lots of kind people offered help at the time and I know another lady was also hit by the rail."
