MOUSEHOLE 0 ILLOGAN 1

ILLOGAN picked up all three points from their visit to Trungle Park to keep alive their lingering Jolly's Combination League hopes.

With Illogan hoping that both St Agnes and Hayle drop points, they needed to ensure they didn't slip up themselves, but with a galeforce wind and bumpy pitch they almost came unstuck against a spirited Mousehole side.

In a first half dominated by the conditions, there were going to be few highlights and so it proved with Illogan only threatening on a couple of occasions.

Jamie Miles tested goalkeeper Furneaux with a well-struck free kick after 18 minutes and ten minutes before the break Andy Hill provided Illogan's only shot from outfield play.

The second half saw Mousehole rely on the same tactics of hard work in defence and relying on the long ball over the top.

The home side were fortunate to escape what looked a blatant handball in the 50th minute, but eight minutes later the visitors took the lead when Paul Wolstencroft ran on to a pass from Kevin Lawrence and fed the ball into the path of Andy Hill to shoot past Furneaux into the corner of the net.

The goal signalled a spell of Illogan pressure, but the home side battled gamely and stuck to their task without ever looking threatening.

Hill had a great chance to put the issue beyond doubt when he went past a defender and saw the 'keeper move too early in anticipation of the shot, then falling backwards, but inexplicably Hill shot into the side netting with the goal beckoning.

Burrows made a fine save from a Boon free kick, but the only other chance fell to Wolstencroft who had a shot cleared off the line by Ashley Thomas,
