PORTHLEVEN 1 TORPOINT 1

INJURY-RAVAGED Porthleven rescued a point from their Carlsberg SWL game with Torpoint at Gala Parc on Sunday thanks to an injury time goal from Dave Sweet.

The Fishermen were without a number of first-choice players, but despite that they still proved more than a match for Torpoint and certainly had enough chances to win the game.

It wasn't a great game with the wind and hard ground making life difficult for both sides, but rescuing the game at such a late time was better than nothing for the beleaguered home side.

Both sides made a lively opening with Luke Hodge heading over from Nick Medlyn's corner and Steve Guy's corner being knocked away by Dave Sweet.

However, Torpoint drew first blood when they scored from a Mike Roberts corner, former Fisherman Darren Wills finding space to head past Perran Cooke.

There was no shortage of chances to get back on level terms with Dean Bray heading behind from Craig Swiggs' cross.

On the half hour Porthleven suffered yet another injury blow when Alan Roberts sustained an injury from a tackle. The game was held up for ten minutes before Roberts was removed to hospital where it was dscovered he broke his leg.

Adrian Bleasedale, playing despite not being 100 per cent fit, put a shot over the bar after good work by Scott Toy and Swiggs had a goal-bound shot charged down from a corner.

For a fleeting moment Torpoint had a chance to score a second when Sam Matthews broke through in a one-on-one with Cooke, but it was the 'keeper who came out on top, forcing Matthews to shoot wide.

Just before the break the Fishermen carved out another opening when Bray found Bleasedale, but his shot was no better than the others as it sailed over the woodwork.

Torpoint made a busy start to the second half as Stacey broke through, but again Cooke did well in a one-on-one.

Porthleven had a goal ruled out in the 69th minute when Hodge headed Bleasdale's free kick back across the face of the goal for Danny Watts to head in, but it was disallowed after the referee's assistant spotted an infringement.

Morrison-Hill and Bleasedale should have done better with a couple of chances, but with the game looking dead and buried Porthleven rescued the game in the second minute of injury time when Hodge helped on Swiggs' cross for Dave Sweet to head in for the equaliser.

The Fishermen will be hoping that some of their missing squad will be back in action for Saturday's game away to Callington.
