A TAUNTON taxi driver was robbed of his takings by a passenger who threatened to shoot him.

The attack happened after the back seat passenger, travelling from the Tiverton area, ordered the cabbie to turn off the A358 near Thornfalcon and into a lane opposite the Nags Head pub at 7.20pm on Tuesday.

The driver of the white taxi was then forced to pull up behind a waiting maroon or dark red Ford Granada or Sapphire.

A police spokesman said: "The passenger then threatened to shoot the driver and demanded money."
