IF you're not on the beach, you're probably at the flicks! Blue Crush is the latest mainstream Hollywood film, set around surfing. Based on Hawaii, it features a host of beautiful top women surfers, including Hawaiian star Keala Kennelly.

Layne Beachley, another Billabong surfer and Australia's five times World champion, is also in the film.

Premiered at Wadebridge recently, the feelgood movie follows the fortunes of the surf chicks of Maui, in particular Kate Bosworth, who plays Anne Marie Chadwick.

David Hennings' film work captures some super waves and whether you think it's cheesy, corny or even a weak storyline, it is endearing. Not in dispute, is that it is an oestrogen-fuelled action-drama set in the boys own world of surfing.

Bosworth, Michelle Rodriguez and Sanoe Lake star as three fun-loving girls who love to surf. Bosworth's character Anne Marie is training for a major competition but her confidence has been severely dented by a near-fatal surfing accident.

Director John Stockwell captures the thrill and the excitement of surfing with snappily edited slow motion sequences but unfortunately some scenes are ruined by amateurish special effects.

The script also capsizes under a tidal wave of clunky dialogue.

None-the-less, the girls all look gorgeous and this movie is mildly diverting entertainment.
